Bad Religion & Pizza Port. Yes please!

So, we have been vegan for a week now. It was a little difficult for Dan this weekend, but he survived it and he doesn't seem deterred yet. Especially since today at work he got a peanut butter smoothie made with rice milk. I'm jealous!

This photo is actually from their 30th anniversary tour.
I hate being one of those people who hold their phone up the entire concert so my pictures aren't very good.

We went down to San Diego this weekend to see Bad Religion and had a blast! We didn't have any trouble finding a place for dinner (with a bit of research on the way down), we found an awesome craft place called the Hopping Pig. Yes, it is a rather put-offish name for a vegan, but they had an amazing veggieburger. With a few minor tweaks it was easily vegan. The place was cool because they had a great beer selection and were a "from scratch" kitchen, so we knew our burgers weren't bocca GMO factories.

Dan's difficulty came with going to Pizza Port for 'breakfast.' Now, now, it's totally fine to have beer and pizza for breakfast, especially when it's daylight savings so 10am was really 11. Also, I believe we stumbled back to our hotel at about 3.30am, which reminds me of another veg fail for us.
Our hotel room view. I love San Diego!
We stopped at a pizza by the slice place on our way back and it was PACKED with drunk people (only place open by now). When we finally got to the register I asked if we could get a pizza without cheese and the guy looked super annoyed that I was actually asking for something not sitting and getting cold, so inconvenient. I mean who goes to a restaurant and expects them to actually make food??  He said something along the lines of well it will probably still have cheese on it... wtf? Really? Ugh. So I was forced (not really, should have just left) to get a salad. Which consisted of lettuce, two(?) pieces of tomato and some pepperoncinis (the only part that was eaten). I felt really bad for Dan because he had to watch our friends chow down on some pizza. But, I think he got over it instantly. Probably just wanted a reason to bitch at me. Ha, we have the most loving and affectionate relationship. ;]

Okay, that was an epic tangent. Let's get back to Pizza Port. Amazing, amazing place. Great beer and their pizza crust (vegan!) is made with their spent grains. So amazing. But... we had to get a cheese-less pizza. Dan was NOT happy about that. He said it was okay, but he had a hard time not wanting to chow down on the other pizza at the table. Bummer. This is one of those moments where you need to remember why you are doing what you are doing. Which is Dan's difficulty. He's trying this for a month, and doing a great job sticking with it, but he's not doing it for strong convictions, he's doing it for me. I think that's why it's hard for him.

Hopefully, by the end of this month he will see that it's not as difficult as it is now. And see how much better he feels, and maybe even understand and embrace the compassionate side, the animals.

It's all good. I have 3 more weeks to whittle down his reservations and show him that this is not a restriction, it's a liberator.
